The fourth unit of the Truly Classic 90 (TC 90) sailing yacht series, Joal, has been launched at Shipborn’s facility in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands. The 27.5-metre yacht was constructed by Shipborn, a newly developed yard established by her owner.
Designed by Hoek Design Naval Architects, Joal features a custom open-plan interior layout, setting her apart from previous TC 90 models. The aluminium hull was built by Bloemsma Aluminiumbouw in Makkum, while Hall Spars Breskens was responsible for the yacht’s spars. Outfitting and technical engineering were carried out by Shipborn.

With a beam of 6.1 metres, Joal accommodates up to six guests in three staterooms, with additional space for a crew of two. The yacht incorporates several modern innovations, including a hybrid propulsion system featuring a Volvo main engine and an electrical backup propulsion system powered by a lithium battery pack. Other notable features include a hydraulically operated stern boarding ladder and a side boarding platform with an integrated ladder, enhancing both accessibility and functionality.
As the fourth yacht in the TC 90 series, Joal follows Kealoha, Atalante I, and Acadia, which were built between 2008 and 2017 by Claasen Shipyards in Zaandam. The TC 90 series is recognized for its combination of classic design and modern sailing technology, maintaining the timeless appeal of Hoek Design’s signature naval architecture.
“The fourth yacht, Joal, now brings fresh innovations to the series, including hybrid propulsion and a unique boarding platform,” Hoek Design Naval Architects said in a statement. “With each new addition, the Truly Classic 90 series remains a symbol of luxury, advanced technology, and timeless appeal in yachting.”
The launch of Joal represents a significant milestone for Shipborn, marking the shipyard’s official entry into the luxury yacht construction market. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering, Shipborn aims to establish itself as a leading player in high-end yacht production.
In addition to her technological advancements, Joal maintains the classic aesthetic for which the TC 90 series is known, featuring elegant lines, a spacious deck layout, and high-quality finishes throughout. Her twin cockpit design provides a balance of functionality and comfort, allowing for an optimal sailing experience.
The launch of Joal follows the recent delivery of the fifth unit in the Truly Classic 128 series by Hoek Design Naval Architects. The Dutch design firm continues to expand its portfolio, which includes both sailing and motor yachts, such as the 2024-delivered Far Niente.
